I am a writer and professor.

I wrote the novel Pop Apocalypse (2009) and the literary history Cool Characters: Irony and American Fiction (2016). I co-edited The Legacy of David Foster Wallace (2012) and Artful Breakdowns: The Comics of Art Spiegelman (forthcoming). I am finishing up a book called The Last Samurai Reread.

The The Habit of Tlön will be a repository for bits of my writing that don’t fit into other, more formal venues. You’ll find occasional essays, talking scripts, lecture notes, manifestos, screeds, and other provisional thoughts posted here.

I don’t have a grand plan for this blog, but I’ll probably write about lots of different things: contemporary literature, science fiction, comics, TV, politics, academic life, maybe even parenting. The more people who read and subscribe to this blog, the more care and attention I’ll give it.

I may also occasionally publish short fiction here.
